SEPTEMBER 2ND: ND ATENEO THEATER
This day the VENUE SC48 was presented before a numerous audience. Many important characters in the music industry were there, among them, well-known local musician Pedro Aznar, Diego Blanco (part of Los Pericos music group), Pichón Dal Pont, Sound Engineer Hernán Nupieri from company BALS (Buenos Aire Live Show), Toby Peralta (Room Engineer for Los Pericos), Tony Freire (Room Engineer for Catupecu Machu) and other technicians and sound engineers working in post-production and TV studios, such as Gustavo Nieto from Canal 7.
The console’s presentation was illustrated with the performance of the music group called Sig Ragga, a new band which is just starting in the industry and has just released their first album (one of the songs was written by Pedro Aznar). This project also had the artistic production by Diego “Chapa” Blanco, keyboardist of Los Pericos.
Room engineer was Eduardo Bergallo, who has worked with many high quality artists both live and in studio. It’s important to say that Bergallo was the one in charge of recording the Soda Stereo’s last tour live, using a system composed of a Venue D-Show and Pro Tools HD2, that material was then used for making the DVD and CDs on the tour, later edited by Sony Music.
Directly from the American company were Ricardo Mantini, AVID Live Sound Specialist for Latin America, and Astor Silva, Avid Audio Sales Manager for Latin America.
The show started with an introduction given by Ricardo Pegnotti, musician and director of Digital Audio Group (local representative of AVID Audio), who detailed on the event’s workflow and commented briefly some features on the Venue console.
Then, Astor Silva talked to the audience on the new organization of the Avid company which today gathers video and audio divisions in the same company, the last one is built by Digidesign, M-Audio and Sibelius. By the end, he gave Ricardo Mantini the right to speak who developed the technical details on the new desk.
After Mantini’s didactic presentation, Sig Ragga‘s members went onstage, under the sound operation of Eduardo Bergallo in FOH and Toby Peralta in monitors. During the sound check the revolutionary workflow called “Virtual Sound Check” was showed.
The band played some songs which were recorded using a Pro Tools LE system simple connected via a Firewire cable to the Venue console. With the Virtual Sound Check possibility, it is not necessary to have the band all the time on the stage. When finishing their two songs, the musicians left the stage and went to their dressing rooms to get ready for the show, in the meantime Eduardo Bergallo made all the sound adjustments in the room with the recording’s playback triggered from Pro Tools.
Once the sound was adjusted, thanks to the use of the console’s native processors and the system’s TDM plug-ins (no external processors were used), the band went to the stage once again, showing a quite peculiar look, to carry out their show which caught the audience’s attention for their glamorous aesthetics and dynamics during their songs.
For closing, Diego Blanco of Los Pericos in keyboards and Ricardo Pegnotti in guitar were invited to the stage to play with them.
By the end of the event, there was a draw of several M-Audio products (Fast Track, Pro Tools M-Powered, Q-40 headphones, Aries and Nova microphones, among others) for the audience.
SEPTEMBER 3RD: LA TRASTIENDA
As part of the Venue SC48 presentation’s schedule in Argentina, on day September 3rd they all moved to La Trastienda during the sound check for musician Guillermo Vadalá, and his band composed of J. Morelli in drums, Baltasar Comotto in guitar and Javier Lozano in keyboards. They also had the participation of several guests like Mono Fontana in keyboards, Alejandro Santos in flute and Nerina Nicotra (bass player for Luis Alberto Spinetta). FOH and monitoring engineer was Pichón Dal Pont, who among his achievements has two Grammy awards for his works with Mercedes Sosa, Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez. The audience in this presentation could see the band’s sound check live some hours before the show which started around 9.30 pm.
The workshop’s outline was similar to the one carried out the day before in the ND Ateneo, when Ricardo Pegnotti and Astor Silva opened the event. After that Ricardo Mantini talked on the possibilities offered by the Venue SC48 and last but not least the band went to the stage and played same songs which were recorded in a Pro Tools connected to the Venue. Using the recorded material’s playback, in high quality (it actually sounded like an album), once the musicians went off the stage, Pichón Dal Pont worked on the general sound adjustments for the band till he got the result he wanted for the concert before an audience which really filled the venue.
VENUE SYSTEMS COURSE
For closing this series of Venue presentations, on Monday, September 7th, it was developed a full-day seminar on the operation of the different Venue console models which took place in DAG/SVC’s training center. This seminar was given by Ricardo Mantini using two consoles: a VENUE SC48 and a Venue D-Show Profile.
The course was addressed to live sound professionals and among those present were Ángel Itelman (from company called Melero / Itelman), Toby Peralta (FOH engineer for Los Pericos), Pichón Dal Pont, Ramón Gallo from AES Argentina, Carlos Laurenz, Carlos Conde (who has just purchased a Venue SC48), among others.
The seminar’s level was very professional and visitors could have hands-on contact with the consoles, both connected to Pro Tools systems, from which they could run different live prerecorded sessions for practicing.
Digital Audio Group wants to thank all those who made this free-of-charge presentations possible, which allowed to show in Argentina this innovative technology developed by Digidesign, that has already been adopted worldwide by artists like U2, Paul McCartney, Peter Gabriel, Coldplay, Sting, Bjork; who are now on tour with a Venue and Pro Tools for carrying out each one of their shows.

Its studio-grade mic preamps preserve audio fidelity and imaging for complete transparency, while built-in processing, including high-quality graphic EQ and dynamics, optimize clarity. And with support for professional plug-ins built right into the console, you can easily re-create and instantly recall an artist’s signature studio sound live on stage.
SC48 introduces several new features to optimize your workflow. Using the exclusive Channel Control, a single button press gives you immediate access and control over any channel strip function, including input parameters, EQ and dynamics, and Aux sends, using the console’s eight color-coded rotary encoders. Use the unique Flex Channel in latch mode to assign and gain perpetual access to a key channel, and never lose sight of the star of the show. Take advantage of VCA Spill, which gives you unprecedented access to specific channels within your mix without banking. And maximize your efficiency using the console’s General Purpose Interface (GPI) I/O and D-Show® software to create custom macros, enabling you to perform multiple functions by simply pressing a button, stomping a footswitch, or moving a fader.
